Great budget mother board and my second gigabyte product and I am very pleased with this buy.

Has good connectivity, supports nvme, 4 sata ports, and has space for a double-width GPU without blocking other slots

-SSD T-Force Cardea Zero Z330

-HDD Samsung 3,5′
-TP-Link Archer T5E
-2 Ventiladores Noctua NF-P12 Redux 1700RPM
-Gabinete AeroCool Hive V2 más ventilador
-PSU EVGA 650 GT

I wanted to like it, I really did. It has a lot of good going for it. Unfortunately, I had endless problems when paired with a Ryzen 5 3400G APU. Everything ran fine for normal, “casual” operations, but as soon as I did anything graphically intensive, such as fire up a video game like Victor Vran or Pillars of Eternity, everything went wrong. Specifically, I would get the “AMD black screen of death”, wherein my monitor and all peripherals would lose power, and I couldn’t even reset my computer when holding down the power button. Any time I would fire up either of those games, within 30 seconds… boom… black screen of death.
I tried a number of different changes to troubleshoot the problem. I updated the bios, swapped the PSU, the RAM, hard drives, operating systems, and finally… the processor. When I swapped out the 3400G with my son’s older Ryzen 3 2200G, everything ran swimmingly, even those aforementioned video games. So, I thought I had a faulty processor and RMAd the Ryzen 5 3400G.
A week later I received the replacement APU, dropped it in the AM4 slot, and…. same problem: black screen of death anytime I fired up a graphically intensive game. In frustration, I was ready to send my 3400G back for a refund, until – on a whim – I decided to swap processors with my son’s computer. As before, pairing his 2200G with this motherboard worked fine, and…. pairing my 3400G with his Gigabyte B450M D3SH also worked just fine. No problems at all, even with the exact same games.
Therefore, I must conclude that there is a functional problem somewhere between this Gigabyte A520M and the Ryzen 5 3400G, since the older 2200G works fine and the 3400G also works fine on the (older) B450M D3SH board. If you want to use the 3400G, then go for the older chipset. Just make sure to update your bios to the latest version, since it may not support the 3400G out of the box.
In the end, I’m keeping the board. My son got lucky since he ended up with a processor upgrade. I’ll still with the 2200G, and won’t dare upgrade while I still own this motherboard.

Honestly, not a bad mobo but, in my poor selection and eagerness to build my new pc when I picked this up in 2022, I did miss the fact it doesnt have a built in wifi adapter, so be warned of that. Beyond this tidbit, quality board from gigabyte, Ive rocked this board two years now with little to no issues, when you enable fast boot it almost instantly boots up with in 5 seconds,it has little to no issues stability wise nor handling overclocking capabilities like xmp profiles for your ram, looks good with no rgb on the board but has headers for argb and 5v rgb if you gotta have rgb in anyway shape or form. Fits nicely in any case that can fit a micro atx board and installs as easily as any mobo.

Works fine.

This is an amazing budget board. It states it doesn’t support pcix 4.0 but when u paired it with a Ryzen 5 3600 and a rx5500xt the GPU is running at PCIx 4.0 x8 which is what the card is rated at. Even without vrm heat sinks the temps stay low. No overclock has been tempted as this mb isn’t designed for that application

After I bricked older Gigabyte B450M DS3H by following Gigabyte instructions to install new BIOS, I decided to get another brand’s MB – ASUS Prime B450M-A II AMD AM4. Low and behold, it was DOA!
Decided to get this MB and it worked right away, no problems at all with my Ryzen 3600. But BIOS was dated 8/2020 – that’s like 8 versions ago.
This MB comes with a cool QFlash feature that allows you to update BIOS from usb flash card and you don’t need cpu/memory even connected.
I never in my life bricked motherboards by doing BIOS update but lesson for me is to always get motherboards either with dual BIOS or something like QFlash.
The only problem so far is while BIOS recognized my DDR4 3000 memory profile, it was not stable and caused a crash within few minutes. I set it to default setting and it seems stable now.
edit: july 2022 ended up getting the same motherboard and it died out of the blue after 4 month. This is the last gigabyte product for me
