This Acer Aspire 5 Laptop (16GB LPDDR5 RAM, 512 GB SSD, Touchscreen, Win 11 Home) is a good Laptop for the average to serious business user – it is fast, good graphics capabilities, lightweight, has all the key stuff that you expect and the Touchscreen is an added bonus …..
However, a few ‘cons’ : My biggest grouse was with the contrast of the lettering on the keys, which was white on gray. With even the slightest light falling on it from the top or back of the laptop, the markings on the keys would be difficult to read. Lack of a USB C port was another ‘con’. The relatively bulky power adapter was also not to my liking as this is not a wall mounted cube but a brick to be kept on the floor !
Setting up the Laptop was easy and I could very quickly get everything set the way I wanted to.
But, I had to return this unit as there was a very unusual jarring vibrating sound from inside the Laptop when I lifted it or sometimes even when just typing on it. Seemed to be coming from the CPU Fan inside. It was not continuous, just for a couple of seconds, but couldn’t take a chance and hence returned it.

First off I paid a low price for this laptop. I will rate and discuss as if I paid regular price. For what I paid the screen is wonderful, especially happy with the now standard selectable dark mode. A Godsend for 70 y.o. eyes. Love the nice large keys on the keyboard. After the initial setup which was fairly painless. It just had a lot of updates to catch up on. Took about 40 minutes.

Since then there have been zero surprises. The “lowly” i3 processor is quick. After all imports from my old laptop I still have 69gb of storage remaining. Everything works so far the first time I try it.

So pleased to have such a nice computer that was inexpensive and it does not feel cheap.

UPDATE: 40 days later I am more in love with this laptop. The free space has gone up to 87gb on the storage drive. I guess it dumped the backup of Windows after a while. Nothing negative to report. Keep impressing me. Hard to believe it was only $199

The laptop was a fantastic purchase for my girl’s school needs. Maybe also good enough for her light gaming.

I bought the Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 for my son, and he absolutely loves it as a college student! The convertible design is a game-changer—he can switch between laptop and tablet modes effortlessly, which makes it great for taking notes in class or streaming lectures in bed.

The 14″ IPS touch display is crisp and vibrant, perfect for both study sessions and downtime Netflix marathons. The Intel Core i3 processor and 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM handle all his needs, from writing essays to running multiple tabs for research, without any lag.

It’s lightweight and portable, so it fits easily in his backpack and doesn’t weigh him down on campus. Battery life is impressive too—it lasts through most of his classes and a library session before needing a charge.

If I had to nitpick, storage could be a bit more generous, but with cloud solutions, it’s manageable. For the price, this laptop is a fantastic value and a great tool for any student.

I bought this laptop for writing and taking online classes primarily, and it’s just perfect. Keyboard is nice to use. Screen is bright and crisp. Laptop is lightweight.

This is NOT a laptop for gaming, video editing, demanding graphics work, and you’re probably going to get frustrated if you are a busy, multi-tasker with multiple software and dozens of browser tabs open at the same time.

That being said, for basic computing needs (word processing, watching Netflix, web browsing, blogging, writing a novel, taking classes, etc…), this laptop is near perfect and budget-friendly.

    Couple Notes:

    – The processor is 1.1 ghz, not 2.8 as listed in description, but really, you wouldn’t be doing anything on this that should ever require that much processor speed.

    – Memory is upgradeable, which is nice, but I’ve found that 4gb is fine for what I’m using it for right now.

    – Laptop looks stylish, but lacks that “high-end” feel – but it’s a $200 laptop. Still, I like it and keyboard feels good for typing at length.

    – Screen is sharp. Colors are decent. Not the best screen out there, of course, but certainly not bad at all. Not a touch screen…slight bummer but not a big deal to me.

    – Sound coming from speakers is nice and loud. No, not premium sound, but sufficient to watch movies/video classes and hear it just fine. I’m happy with it, but no audiophile. Use headphones or a Bluetooth speaker if you want better sound.

    – Performance has been fast and I’ve been satisfied.

    – Easy to switch from Windows S to full Windows Home, which is my preference and why I opted for this over a Chromebook.

    – 81gb of available storage space after OS and apps take up a bit of the 128 gb drive. To me, that’s totally fine since I’m not saving anything on this – it all goes in the cloud.

    – I don’t think the battery will actually last 9 hours with normal settings, but I get a solid 5 or so hours out of it between charges.

    RE: Slowness/Lagginess:

A couple negative reviews mentioned this and when it happened to me, I thought that maybe there WAS something off about this computer.

Turns out when I logged into my Microsoft account, it started syncing my existing desktop computer with this laptop, and with only 4gb of memory and slower processor, it just bogged it right down for about 20 minutes or so as it synced apps, desktop icons, etc…. Once everything synced up, it was fine and has been ever since.

So if you experience slow, laggy performance when you first get this, and you’ve logged into your Microsoft account, set it down and let it sync for 20 minutes or so, or better yet, adjust the sync settings to be more selective.

All in all, it’s a great, inexpensive laptop that is super lightweight, super portable, looks nice, performs great, and is perfect for basic computing, an older child/teen, college courses, etc…
