This is an upgrade from my previous GE66 with 11th gen Intel+ 3070.
This laptop is very good. Nice quality and build over all. The mini LED display is very very bright and has a nice contrast. It’s a huge improvement from conventional screens. The performance is expected and never goes to thermal throttle.
However, the wifi card was dead on arrival, it took me an hour to figure out the motherboard doesn’t recognize the wifi card at all, and I had to install my wifi 6e card from my old MSI laptop.
I would give it a 5 star but 1. There really shouldn’t be any issues happening for laptops of this price tag, especially a wifi card, one of the cheapest components on the motherboard. The only way for me to revert the rating to 4 or 5 is Amazon send me a wifi card so that my old laptop will be able to connect to wifi again.
My old MSI GE66 survived 24/7 of 2-years gaming, and it’s still doing fine with some minor keyboard problems. Let’s see how long this one will last.

Overall this is a great laptop. It runs everything I throw at it smoothly and without issues. As usual, MSI has top-quality products and this laptop is no exception. They beat out an asus laptop I wanted on a few points:
– Better keyboard programmability than competitors
– The trackpad feels smooth and amazing
– Lighting options are better than competitors
– 4k screen with excellent quality
– Windows hello camera
– It just feels and looks great
There are only a few things that cause me to give 4 stars instead of 5:
– Steelseries software is very buggy, and you cannot save your keyboard presets. Since it’s buggy it may need to be reinstalled. If so you will lose all presets, and there is no way to save or export these settings at all. This is a major failure and worth losing a star on its own. This should be easy to solve but seems to be a basic failure of the software design.
– PD charging does not work as advertised. It worked at first, then stopped working 2 days after I got the laptop. MSI recommended I return it to the retailer. The new laptop also fails to charge over USB-c or thunderbolt.
– The keyboard brightness is too low. When you press the FN key, the top row of function keys lights up solid red and very bright. Unfortunately this is the only time the keys get this bright. Even on the brightest setting, the keyboard seems to be intentionally dimmer than the possible maximum. This causes the keyboard to be dimmer than competitors like asus, and unfortunately MSI seems to use altered images when showing the keyboard in advertisements to make it look brighter.
– The fan is extremely loud when it gets going.
– Lighting does not integrate well with other services
– Steelseries audio is poorly designed and not very useful.
– No ability to wake from sleep when the laptop is closed. I use a dock and close the laptop. I should be able to move the mouse or type on the keyboard and wake up the computer, but this basic option is not available in the bios.
Overall I think this is the best laptop in its class and price range over its competitors.

There’s literally nothing bad I can say about this laptop. Every little detail is just *chefs kiss*. Even down to the track pad being one of the smoothest and most satisfying materials to touch. Not to mention the specs are almost on par with my desktop which is wild. Very happy!
